What the Anuradhapura City Tour Covers
Our Anuradhapura city tour is a five-hour guided loop of the ancient city by tuk-tuk, from $25.00 for up to three people. It takes in the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, the Ruwanweli Maha Seya stupa, the Isurumuniya rock temple and the Anuradhapura moonstone, with hotel pickup, drop-off and parking included. Archaeological-zone entry tickets are paid separately at the gate.
Anuradhapura was the island's capital for well over a thousand years, and what survives is spread across several kilometres of sacred city rather than gathered in one place. That is the practical reason most visitors do it by tuk-tuk: the walk between the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and Isurumuniya in the middle of the day is a good deal longer and hotter than it looks on a map.
The route covers four stops and your driver waits at each one, so you set the pace and there is no group schedule to keep up with. Parking is covered, and pickup and drop-off are from your hotel in the Anuradhapura area. Entry to the archaeological zone is bought at the gate and is not part of the tuk-tuk rate. A licensed guide can join you for the history at each stop if you want one.
